When you read, your mind is removed from what is happening in your world at that moment, allowing it to focus on the words before you. So how can reading change your perspective on events in your life, and help you grow into the person you have always wanted to be?

Whether reading the words or listening to them, reading changes your perspective because it brings you into the present moment... yet also away from it.
I love to escape to other worlds far removed from my own. My world is not terrible; I just yearn to know others and live through the eyes of the author. Reading does that.
"A reader lives a thousand lives before he dies… the man who never reads lives only one." - George R.R. Martin
A book takes you on a journey of understanding. I firmly believe that when the student is ready, the teacher will appear, and most likely, that teacher will be in the form of a book.
Books Inspire
From The Wizard of Oz to The Alchemist*, books have long provided entertainment beyond the words so eloquently delivered. Hidden messages of hope and motivation give the reader a new perspective on life.
In the age of digital technology, I am more inclined to listen to a book on Audible while driving long distances rather than silence or mundane music. I find that listening to a book is just as rewarding as reading it. So much can be learned with the aid of a talented storyteller.
I have to say, though, a library is my favourite place to visit. I love their smell, their ambience, and the rows and rows of books that cradle the thoughts of thousands of people, much like you and me.
Books that inspire are too numerous to count. I have, over the years, read books that have changed my whole perspective and others that have simply entertained me with their rich, diverse characters and landscapes.
So many books stand out in my long list of favourite books to read, but if there is one book you should read or listen to in your lifetime, I would highly recommend Bill Bryson's A Short History of Nearly Everything*
If you’ve ever wondered how the world came to be as it is, and how little we often stop and truly think about it, this book is a quietly mind-expanding companion. With curiosity and gentle humour, Bryson walks us through the vast story of science, from the smallest particles to the edge of the universe, reminding us just how extraordinary it is that we are here at all. It’s the kind of book that doesn’t just inform, it shifts something in you, leaving you seeing the ordinary world with a little more wonder.
By far, an amazing book to study, or simply for entertainment value, regardless of your religious or spiritual standing. Whether you believe what you read or not, I promise you will be in awe at the wonders that make our world, and no doubt, you will form your own perspective on it. I hope you do.
Do your own research on topics raised in the book; indeed, do your own research on anything portrayed as reality by anyone. BE critical of everything you read, see, feel, or hear.
Reading can be a natural course to learning about who you are, aside from the things you have been taught through the years by your parents, teachers, society, and politicians!
Like you, others have wondered about the things you wonder about, even now. They have put pen to paper or typed their findings so they may share with you the things that make the world work.
Reading changes your perspective and allows you to grow... so grow into the person you wish to be.
Namaste
